World Teachers’s Day 2024 – Every teacher has a story to tell

IEU(SA) Member Celebration for World Teachers’ Day 2024

To celebrate World Teachers’ Day this year (Friday 25 October), we are asking our teacher members to share their story with other members by answering 2 questions:

  1. What keeps you in teaching?
  2. What is the best thing about teaching?

All you need do is record a video (using your mobile phone or digital camera) and then share it with us. (If you prefer not to record a video but wish to record audio only, do that, but we will be prioritising video messages).

We will produce suitable video celebrations and publish them in the week of World Teachers’ Day on our social media, website and YouTube.

Video Dos

Research has shown that shorter video messages work best. Keeping your message brief and to the point will ensure that members stay engaged.

We may combine short videos into a longer, overall video for YouTube, but we may also publish short segment videos (also known as Shorts or Reels) on social media and/or YouTube.

How to record your video

The image below shows an ideal, simple video location setup that we can use many ways for production.

If you follow these simple tips it will help us get your message out to members:

  • Film with your phone sideways/landscape NOT vertical.
  • Use the usual standard for videos on smartphones (16:9 video aspect at 1920 x 1080px).
  • Make sure your lighting in the room is sufficient to illuminate your face clearly.
  • Try to avoid having just your face in the video, leave space around you (see the photo above).
  • Keep yourself centred in the middle of the video.
  • Be aware of background sounds/noises intruding on your recording.

Submit your video by 5pm, Friday 18 October.

Video Don’ts

For us to use your contribution, we need to be sure that the following are not included or seen in your video:

  • Identifiable workplace brand, signage or buildings.
  • Workplace branded uniforms, name tags, lanyards etc.
  • Any person other than yourself.
  • Product brands etc.

How do you share your video to the IEU?

Videos files are generally large in file size so anything larger than 10mb should not be emailed, they should be uploaded to a file sharing website and then send a download link to us via enquiries@ieusa.org.au – the link shouldn’t have a password or be locked, it needs to be a shareable link.

If you have a Gmail account, you will have access to GoogleDrive. DropBox is another popular file sharing platform.

Here are some handy links on file sharing.

Use of image consent

  • that your image may be used for the purposes of display, publicity and in promotional materials by the IEU(SA). This includes print and online platforms including newsletters, social media and websites.
