TOPIC: DUTY OF CARE & MANAGING RISK IN SCHOOL ACTIVITIES (ESPECIALLY OFFSITE) – STRIKING THE RIGHT BALANCE
PRESENTER: Daniela Cecere-Palazzo, Director, Dux Lawyers, Adelaide
Daniela Cecere-Palazzo is a Director of Dux Lawyers in Adelaide with more than 15 years of legal expertise. Much of her professional work has been dedicated to assisting schools and their insurers navigate legal complexities including risk management, policy development, compliance and litigation. She has worked in a variety of legal settings and most notably was Special Counsel at Minter Ellison in Insurance and Corporate Risk and worked as In House Legal Counsel at the Catholic Education Office. Daniela also consults to other firms in the areas of employment, insurance and litigation. She is renowned for her strategic foresight, commercial acumen and unwavering tenacity. In 2013 Daniela undertook the prestigious Governor’s Leadership Foundation Program. Daniela supports the Indigenous Law Student Mentoring Program and is a member of the Law Society of South Australia. Daniela was an enthusiastic member of the organizing committee for and a presenter at the 2014 ANZELA national conference held in Adelaide.
Daniela has school-aged children and is thus well placed to provide a comprehensive perspective that encompasses both what a ‘reasonable parent’ would expect from a school in managing child-related activities as well as the current requirements of the law. Her presentation will cover essential legal principles and guidelines, along with topical case studies. She will offer practical advice and strategies for schools to help reduce the likelihood of future incidents and potential claims.
