Catholic EA Bargaining Update

After a day’s training in the principles of Interest Based Bargaining led by FWC Deputy President Booth, the parties held their first meeting on 26 August and agreed on a short list of interests that would frame the identification of problems and how they can be solved in a win-win fashion in the next EA.

Meetings are scheduled fortnightly in term time with the second meeting on 10 September.

It was recognised that CESA aspires, like the IEU, to better jobs, better schools and a better society and to raise hearts and minds. The 10 September meeting refined the short list of Interests to be:

    1. How do we enhance outcomes for children and young people (academic and wellbeing performance)?
    2. How do we ensure real choice for families (accessibility and affordability)?
    3. How do we recognise the professionalism of our workforce (enhanced salary and conditions)?
    4. How can we enhance industrial fairness at work?
    5. How can we enhance safety at work?
    6. What is the best use of individuals’ time?

The meeting then unpacked the Problems associated with Interest #1 and brainstormed some Options. No Consensus was attempted or reached, but it was proposed that some of the ideas raised would benefit from starting discussion on Issue #6 next – “What is the best use of an individual’s time?” at the 23 September meeting.
