Catholic EB24 – Meeting 4: ESOs increasing work and complexity
Yesterday, your IEU(SA) Bargaining Team, led by Louisa Fidock (Library Assistant, Saint Ignatius’), talked about ESOs increasing work and complexity. Listen to her summary below:
We proposed measures to reduce ESOs working unpaid overtime, working through breaks, or having unmanageable workloads – including student ratios for counsellors.
We put ESO pay on the agenda, proposing a new criteria-based increment, and removing the junior and 1A Grades, as well as reducing the steps at Grade 1 and 2; with increased allowances for personal care and vehicle allowances for ESOs going above and beyond.
The employer was receptive to looking at the classification structure, but they were not aware of any ESOs routinely working unpaid overtime.
The employer’s only substantive claim on ESO workload was a two hour increase to the span of hours for Curriculum, Resources, Administration and Other Professionals Stream ESOs – from 8am to 6pm to a new span of 7am to 7pm. This would mean that any ESO in those streams can be required to work at 7am up to 7pm without being paid any overtime.
