Catholic EB24 Update

The employer (CESA) has agreed to meet with the IEU to start bargaining in week 1 of next term.

Meetings will be fortnightly thereafter. We will provide regular updates to members and seek your input.


Did you know:The maximum face to face teaching load of a primary school teacher in a DfE school is 22.5 hours while the maximum for a Catholic primary school teacher is 24 hours. In Victorian Catholic schools it is 21 hours.


As you would know from your IEU campaign pledge card, members in schools and preschools are seeking:

  • Smaller class sizes, more assistance to manage student complexity and increased classroom support.
  • Workloads that are reasonable and not excessive.
  • Better remuneration
  • Safe Schools and Preschools.
  • Family-friendly conditions, improved leave arrangements, and greater access to flexible work arrangements.
  • Respectful and fair treatment, equal opportunities, and an end to gender inequity.
  • Job security and better career progression and advancement.
  • Staff Attraction and Retention
  • Preservation of Current Entitlements.
  • Collaborative Approach to Workplace Matters.

Did you know: A Catholic School ESO Grade 2 Level 2 is paid $ 72,793, but an SSO 2 in DfE is paid $74,963.

Did you know: A Catholic school teacher at the top of the scale is paid $116,162, and a teacher at St Peter’s College is paid $124,687.


Catholic Education has informed us that they are seeking:

  • Adjustment of clauses and provisions to ensure legislative compliance.
  • Adjustment of clauses to clarify intent and application of provisions.
  • Process changes for efficiency and cohesion.
  • Streamlining certain matters currently covered in the Agreement which are already covered through legislation or could be more appropriately addressed through CESA policy.
  • Modernise clauses and workplace entitlements.
  • Improved attraction and retention.
  • Enhanced productivity and fairness for employees.
  • Updates to the Agreement to comply with undertakings and administrative amendments.

The difference in approach and views of the employer and IEU members in schools and preschools will become more apparent over the course of bargaining.
