Final Rep Training ends a very successful training year

Our final IEU(SA) Representative (Rep) training workshop was conducted on Wednesday 26 November. On a day that looked very unfriendly outside, the skies cleared and Reps were able to enjoy lunch, some sunshine and networking in the ‘secret garden’ just down the street from our IEU office.

Having a smaller group allowed us to trial some changes to content.

It has been a very successful training year; we have trained 70 reps over 7 training dates.

We have purposefully kept groups limited to 10-12, not only due to space, but to enable time for valuable discussion.

The most inspiring thing for the IEU trainers is seeing the mix of new and more experienced Reps who are all passionate about building union in their worksite; meaning everyone in the room has had the opportunity to be encouraged by, and learn from, others.

The feedback on these Rep training workshops has been really positive. Here is some of the feedback from attendees:

  • A greater understanding of encouraging new or potential members.
  • An opportunity to meet with like-minded people and discuss concerns or what’s important for our members and potential members.
  • I felt my confidence to act in my Rep role was boosted, and I felt inspired to be more proactive at my site.
  • Ability to connect with colleagues from other work sites and learn from their experiences.
  • I was provided with tools and encouragement to be a union Representative to the best of my ability.

In 2026, we plan to extend our Introductory Rep Training (level 1) over 2 days to allow deeper exploration and practice of the core skills for Reps.

We are also aiming to offer a 1-day, Level 2 training course, for those Reps who have completed Level 1 this year.

Save the date: Friday 6 March 2026 (Week 6, Term 1)

Following the success of our Women Reps Training Day this year we will again run this in 2026, inclusive of an International Women’s Day (IWD) breakfast for women attending.
