First new membership category since 2023
For the first time since 2023, IEU(SA) is updating its membership fee schedule.
We have deliberately held membership fees steady over this period, despite increases in wages and the rising costs of operating the union.
Rather than increasing fees across our existing categories, we are following our established approach of adding a new category at the top of the fee schedule.
Category U will be introduced for members earning more than $120,001 gross per year.
Importantly, all existing fee categories will remain unchanged. This means members earning $120,000 or less will continue to pay according to the current fee schedule.
The new category simply recognises that salary increases have moved more members beyond the upper limit of our existing categories. As negotiated salary increases see top-step teacher salaries move beyond $130,000, it is likely that a further category will be introduced in 2027.
Our approach to setting fees also remains unchanged. Each category is calculated at approximately 0.9% of the salary at the midpoint of the relevant income band, plus the $40 federal IEU affiliation fee. This ensures IEU membership fees remain fair and consistent for all members; with the amount you pay staying proportionate to your income.
Existing categories stay the same. The fee schedule simply moves with members’ wages.
