From the SACE Board

This year the SACE Board undertook a review of the Special Provisions in Curriculum and Assessment Policy in response to the report on the 2015 Review of the Disability Standards for Education 2005.

The policy ensures students with a disability are not disadvantaged in their schooling by providing them with reasonable adjustments and special provisions.

In the past schools determined and approved special provisions for any school based tasks and the SACE Board was responsible for any Stage 2 external assessments. As a result of the review the policy has been altered to acknowledge that the teacher working with the student is best able to advise on special provisions removing the need for SACE Board approval for stage 2 assessments.

The SACE Board will continue to provide direction to schools on special provisions, where required, but it is hoped that giving the schools greater autonomy in this area will make the process easier for eligible students.

The policy will come into effect this year and will approve special provision paper applications as per school recommendations.
