Compare the pair – it doesn’t add up

IEU members in Catholic schools quite rightly feel confused about where the current offer from Catholic Education South Australia (CESA) leaves them compared with Department for Education (DfE) schools, particularly given the recent CESA flyers advising staff that they are better off than those in DfE schools.

IEU Reps have asked for an updated comparison so members can compare for themselves and see where their salaries and conditions stand against those in DfE schools.

Members should take note of conditions, not just salaries, that leave them worse off — for example, Curriculum Extension Activities can require 5–30 unpaid hours, compared with zero hours in DfE schools. Do you really think up to 30 hours of unpaid work is fair?

We say your salary and other conditions need to be better, and members agree. Members are taking industrial action in approved schools to send that message clearly.

The comparison below is not definitive, as salaries and conditions across the two sectors are complex to compare side by side. However, it does give you an indication of where important differences remain and why members are continuing to use their collective voice to seek an improved EA.
