IEU attend 2023 IWD Adelaide Breakfast
A number of IEU(SA) staff gathered over breakfast in the IEU Boardroom to participate (via an online link) with the Adelaide IWD Breakfast at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
This IWD Breakfast continues to be the largest in the Southern Hemisphere and it is the largest annual women’s event in the Adelaide calendar. This event was established by UN Women Australia in Adelaide in 1993 and has tremendous support from the Adelaide community raising $100,000 for the world’s women and girls in 2022.
The breakfast was hosted by Senator the Hon Penny Wong and the Keynote Speaker was Caroline Kennedy, US Ambassador to Australia.
Welcome to Country was given by Rosemary Wanganeen.
The IEU proudly supports the work of UN Women Australia and their work with gender inequalities.
In order to achieve gender equality by 2030, UN Women Australia’s focus is on priority areas that are fundamental to women’s equality and that can unlock progress worldwide.
UN Women’s priority areas include:

- Ending poverty through enhancing women’s economic empowerment
- Responding in emergencies to ensure women’s needs and talents are at the centre of disaster planning and response
- Women’s leadership and political participation
- Women’s inclusion in peace-making processes and negotiations
UN Women Australia is a registered charity in Australia which exists to raise funds for and awareness of UN Women’s work across the Pacific and around the world. UN Women Australia is recognised by UN Women as its partner in Australia to advance UN Women’s agenda.
