IEU(SA) member survey results – how did we do?

We had an unprecedented response rate to our survey, an incredible 17.8%!
This was an excellent result and it provides us with ‘actual member feedback’ that can be reviewed, planned for and used to implement future improvements and adjust our member solutions as needed.
Importantly, I am pleased to report that you tell us that we are doing a great job.
In particular, you said that we are making a positive impact for members and that you align with the unions core values and you have high levels of satisfaction that we are meeting them.
The vast majority of members indicated that they are likely to continue membership and that the union provides valuable membership benefits.
Your feedback about the types of communications, and ways of communication, is invaluable for us to develop alternate ways of informing and engaging with you.
There are of course areas that you have identified that we could improve – and we thank you for being open about this. It is great to know we do a good job for you, but it is just as important that you tell us what else we can improve to assist you.
Some member cohorts said that we could connect with them more effectively: ie. regional and rural members, support staff and those working in Lutheran schools. We commit to developing plans about how we can engage more effectively with you.
You also identified that access to and the knowledge of your school-based IEU(SA) Sub-Branch Representative (Rep) is important. We will continue to roll out our Rep training (now up to 53 Reps trained this year). We commit to develop additional, ongoing training for these recently trained Reps.
Communication is a key consideration
Throughout the survey responses you indicated that you appreciate prompt communication. The IEU(SA) is a small team, and you acknowledged that speaking to ‘your Organiser’ was ideal, but not always immediately possible. We commit to continue to monitor response times and endeavour to continue the best service that our team can deliver.
You identified that our current website is not the easiest to navigate. We have already started the process of planning a new website and in 2026 we will be looking to improve the content focus for simplicity, logic and usability.
We will also continue to develop the content of your online Members Portal, so that as members, you have access to information that non-members do not. We emailed all members on Monday 4 August with their Member Portal details and I am pleased to say that at the time of writing, 70% of members had opened that email.
Thank you to all IEU(SA) members who completed our recent survey. As promised, everyone who took part went into the draw to win one of three $100 Union Shopper Gift Cards. The randomly drawn winners are:
- Patrick Fitzgerald, Primary School Teacher at Mount Carmel College Primary Campus
- Nicki Sharrad, Primary School Teacher at St John Bosco School
- Simon Sypek, Secondary School Teacher at University Senior College
Congratulations! We will be in touch soon to organise delivery of your gift cards. Thank you to all members for your participation in this very important survey.
Together, we’re building a stronger union—powered by your voice, shaped by your needs.
