IEU(SA) Rep Training Term 1 – 2026

Following our successful Representative (Rep) training sessions in 2025, where over 70 Reps attended face-to-face training at the IEU, we have more Rep training days coming up this term.
Reps who attended our training sessions in 2025 told us they really valued these learning and practice sessions and the opportunity to network with Reps from other worksites.
We have Level 1 and Level 2 sessions — Level 2 sessions are for Reps who have completed Level 1 or the Women’s Rep training in 2025.
If you have multiple elected Sub-Branch Reps at your school, we highly encourage all of your Reps to attend training.
Level 1: IEU(SA) Representative Training over 2 days – Thursday 12 March and Friday 13 March.
The 2-day training session begins at 9am, includes morning tea and lunch and concludes at 3pm.
This training is for ALL IEU(SA) Reps, not just new Reps. It is important training designed to assist you in your role.
The training will cover the following skills and content (but not limited to just these):
- Information, tips and skill development to assist you in your Rep role.
- Sessions will be tailored to the experience mix of participants.
- Networking with Reps from other independent schools.
Level 2: IEU(SA) Representative Training for 1 day, Wednesday 25 March.
Level 2 is for those Reps who have completed Level 1 and based on what you told us you need.
The training session begins at 9am, includes morning tea and lunch and concludes at 3pm.
Level 2 sessions will build on the skills, information and strategies you explored at Level 1 but based on feedback from you will a focus on:
- Supporting members in meetings with the employer/leadership.
- Enterprise bargaining.
- Workplace Health and safety – collectively organising for a Psychologically and Physically safe workplace.
Recent Rep training attendees found the training very helpful and offered this feedback to their training: Q:“What did you gain most from/enjoy about the training?”
- “Learning skills to help me with growing and retaining my Sub-Branch.”
- “I felt my confidence to act in my rep role was boosted, and I felt inspired to be more proactive at my site.”
- “Connecting with other staff and realising we are all dealing with very similar issues.”
Numbers are limited to 12 per training day, so be sure to book ASAP to secure a place.
Although many of our Enterprise Agreements (EAs) covering independent schools provide access to at least one paid day training per year, some allow for more.
Additionally, as part of the new Delegates’ Rights provisions introduced recently , the entitlement could be up to five days paid (for initial training) for members covered by the award or in new or re-negotiated EAs.
If you are unsure as to how many days you are entitled to please contact your IEU Organiser.
We urge all Reps to book in and attend training, regardless of your level of experience.
