IEU(SA) represents members at the Social Media Summit
The IEU was invited to attend Day 2 of the Social Media Summit, as part of a diverse group of experts, policymakers, academics and young people to explore key areas, including the impacts of social media on children and young people, online safety, social media’s role in disinformation and misinformation, addressing online hate and extremism, and how social media is changing the way government delivers services.
The summit will help inform the design and delivery of a range of policies, programs and resources to address the challenges posed by social media.
School students across South Australia will be taught about online safety and the dangers of social media, as part of important reforms to the child safety curriculum by the Malinauskas Labor Government.
Whilst the government will fund the resources for department schools, the IEU has informally spoken at the summit with The Hon Blair Boyer MP, SA’s Minister for Education, Training and Skills, raising the question of how resources will be funded in non-government schools.
Updates on discussions and outcomes will be communicated to members once this is known.
