National Reconciliation Week 2020: In this together, online, and ongoing

The IEU shares this event with respect and will continue to share information throughout National Reconciliation Week.

Introduction from Reconciliation Australia Website

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) 2020 will be celebrated entirely online, a way of life we have all become very familiar with in the past couple of months.

“As this year’s National Reconciliation Week theme says, we are In this together,” said Reconciliation Australia’s Chief Executive Officer, Karen Mundine. That theme is resonating now in ways we could not have foreseen but it reminds us whether in a crisis or in reconciliation, we are all in this together! Our program of online events and activities mean we can still be In this together while being apart.”

“The anniversary dates which mark National Reconciliation Week (NRW) are significant milestones for reconciliation: 27 May – the 1967 Referendum, and 3 June – the High Court Mabo decision.

“Like other important dates we commemorate, the purpose remains the same even if the way we mark it is different,” said Ms Mundine

CONNECTION THROUGH STORYTELLING IN NRW2020

The joy gained from reading a great book cannot be underestimated – even more so if that story is shared! #NRW2020 is a great opportunity to host a virtual book club, and share in the many tales, lives and perspectives of Australia’s first storytellers.

Novels to non-fiction, poetry to prose, we have collected a range of some of the most mind-expanding and heart-capturing stories from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander authors to get you started.

Little J & Big Cuz

Little J, he’s five and Big Cuz, she’s nine. They’re a couple of Indigenous Australian kids living with their Nanna and Old Dog. Little J and Big Cuz are busy with the ups and downs of playground and classroom. There’s always something surprising going on whether it’s at school, in the backyard…or beyond. The gaps in Nanna’s ramshackle fence lead to Saltwater, Desert and Freshwater Country. With the help of Nanna and their teacher Ms Chen, Little J and Big Cuz are finding out all about culture, community and country.
