Parental Leave – returning to part-time work
As an IEU member, you can confidentially discuss your entitlements and options before, during or after you take parental leave.
Your IEU Organiser understands your school’s EA and can assist you to plan and apply for parental leave, and this also includes what options you have for part-time work when you return.
There are a number of ways you can propose options to your school that mutually benefit you both—such as:
- Discuss a joint proposal with someone at the school you know who would be interested in a job share arrangement
- Be open to variations of the point time you are considering – eg 0.5 may not work but the school might accept .4 or .6
- Ensure you highlight the skills, interests and strengths to ensure your school understands there are multiple options to accommodate your request
No matter what you propose or correspond, make sure it is in writing to ensure that your agreements and discussions are not lost if there is a change of management.
