Union Win for two IEU(SA) members!

The IEU recently represented two members in relation to a major workplace change and genuine redundancy matter.
The IEU was successful in pursuing the School for $23,760 in a payment for Pecuniary Penalties for breaches of the Enterprise Agreement (EA). Half of the payment went directly into the pockets of our members, and half to the union (legal costs and staff costs to present the case).
When an employer intends to make a major workplace change, they must conduct and adequate and substantial consultation with any workers who may be directly affected. That is not just the right thing to do – it is required by the EA!
The IEU represented the two members and raised issues with the School in relation to the inadequate nature of the consultation process.
As a result, the IEU ensured that a further consultation proceed was undertaken. We supported our members through that and negotiated a settlement which included a large financial settlement and payment for pecuniary penalties.
