UNION WIN! Garden College wins right to bargain!

8 May 2026
In December 2025, the IEU wrote to the leadership of Garden College to seek their agreement to bargain. This was declined by the leadership of the College.
Members unionised and collected support from fellow members and other teachers at the school.
In March 2026 the IEU applied to the Fair Work Commission (FWC) to seek a Majority Support Determination, for teachers at the College to be able to bargain for an Enterprise Agreement (EA).
The IEU supported members to provide information to the FWC to show that they had the majority support of teachers at the College to bargain.
The FWC ordered that a majority of employees wish to bargain and they granted the application.
This is the first time the IEU(SA) has applied for and been granted a Majority Support Determination.
These are not easy to win and members should be congratulated for their work to get the signatures required and to stand strong in the face of such uncertainty.
We are overjoyed with the decision from the FWC and look forward to bargaining with members at Garden College.
