IEU(SA) members’ pens have been updated with Eco Wheat Pens!

The importance of pens to educators cannot be understated and as our Victoria/Tasmania Branch so cleverly phrased ‘GET IT IN WRITING’. We had this printed on our new ‘Bruno’ Eco Pens – just to remind you. (And no, the pen isn’t named after our Organiser – Bruno Sartoretto).

In our endeavour to improve the environmental impacts of our purchases, this pen helps us meet this criteria because of its wheat straw content.

Wheat straw is the left over stalks from harvested wheat with very little value, 100% renewable and biodegradable. Wheat straw bioplastic is made of 30 percent wheat straw/70 percent polypropylene – 100% natural, renewable and biodegradable.

Plant-based plastics, also known as Bio-plastics, are creative new materials that have qualities and benefits similar to traditional plastics.

In contrast to regular plastic, which is generated from petroleum, bioplastic is made from a plant source. Wheat straw, bamboo fibre, rice husks, sugar cane, corn starch, and other plant-based polymers are all examples of plant based sustainable alternatives.

Wheat straw is not made from fossil fuels, unlike conventional plastics.

Even better, wheat straw is gluten-free as gluten does not occur in the straw, stalk or husk of wheat.

Our Organisers will have a stock of pens when they visit your school so be sure to have a chat with them and grab a pen. If you require an Organiser to visit your school to meet members and chat invite along some potential members as well. Contact our office – 8410 0122 or enquiries@ieusa.org.au
