“Independent Education Union. This is the Admin Team.”

Like all businesses, working behind the scenes here at the IEU(SA) office is an Administration Team supporting all the other IEU teams and our members (and potential members) with their enquiries and requirements.

You may have already met some of our staff from the following teams:

  • Management (Branch Secretary, Deputy Secretary and Executive)
  • Industrial Relations, and
  • Organisers

Whether you contact our office telephone number, submit a website enquiry from our contact page or join the IEU online, one of our admin team — Nick, Tania and Peter — will be assisting you with your enquiry.

Apart from general member assistance and directing your enquiries to the appropriate team, each of us have other specific roles:

  • Nick – Membership Officer (and IT/Industrial Support)
  • Tania – Finance Officer (and Membership Support)
  • Peter – Communications/Research Officer (and Membership Support)

Nick has been with the IEU for over 8 years and he manages the membership database and is currently working alongside the IEU VicTas and WA Branch, as we look to implement a new member portal. The new portal will enable members to: update their own details online; edit and pay membership online; download invoices and tax receipts; and, access a range of member-only information to help in their careers. As our IT guru, Nick problem-solves any gremlins that occur and sets up computer and mobile systems as needed for our staff. Nick also supports our industrial team with document handling, WorkCover cases and Enterprise Agreement queries.

Tania started with the IEU 16 years ago and currently works part-time. Tania primarily looks after the finance role with day-to-day accounting and assisting management with budgets, reporting, payroll and superannuation, and any financial transactions. Tania assists Nick with the member processes of joining and updating member details and following up any changes to credit card or direct debit payments when notified by the bank. (Members may not realise this but when the bank changes your credit card number or expiry, we aren’t notified. Hence, you might get a call from Tania asking for new details!). In addition, Tania is a keen ‘foodie’ and she organises (and sometimes caters) for member and staff events.

Peter has been with the IEU just over 4.5 years and plans, edits, writes and designs online content for our website, member email communications, social media and also designs and creates our member publications such as forms, brochures, fact sheets, promotional items and signage. In addition, Peter researches articles and education/union content, monitors media and social media and reports any actionable items to our Branch Secretary, Tim Oosterbaan. Peter also plans and manages publication of our regular member electronic Direct Mail (eDM) Class Action along with editing staff content to members and generating various eDMs for Enterprise Agreement updates and other member notices.

So there you have it – next time you contact our office or receive an email from our admin team, you might have a better ‘picture’ of who we are.

End of year items from the Admin Team

Now that the end of term and end of year is approaching, please note the following important information for all members.

  • Our office will close at noon Thursday 21 December for our break and re-open Monday 15 January 2024 at 10am (after our staff meeting).
  • Your next membership fee deduction date is Wednesday January 3 2024.
