REPS – the key to a good connection between your workplace and the IEU office

IEU(SA) Representatives (Reps) play a key role at the workplace (IEU Sub-Branch) and provide connection to the IEU(SA) office. It is vital that your workplace Reps are both active and knowledgeable.

It is important to plan now for the beginning of 2024. So what does an active Sub-Branch Rep do to achieve this? They should:

  • check the membership list for accuracy
  • notify their Organiser or the IEU office of anyone who has left their workplace
  • notify their Organiser or the IEU office of a member who has changed their fraction or role
  • identify new members of staff, ask them if they are an IEU member, and if not, give them information about membership and ask them to join
  • connect with members to remind them who their Rep is and organise the first Sub-Branch meeting and invite the Organiser to attend.

What does your IEU(SA) Organiser do to support Reps in their workplace? They will:

  • send a copy of the most recent member list from the IEU database
  • be available to answer any questions they have
  • help Reps identify other members who could assist or become Co-Reps
  • help Reps to improve their organising and recruitment skills
  • provide membership forms, IEU(SA) stationery, flyers and member merchandise.

What if my school doesn’t have an IEU Sub-Branch Rep or my Sub-Branch Rep needs help?

Consider thinking about nominating for the role. More information about what a Rep does can be read on the IEU(SA) website here: https://ieusa.org.au/reps
